German artist, Albrecht Dürer, was a leading painter, printmaker, and engraver during the Renaissance period. His work consisted mainly of altarpieces, religious work and portraits. His knowledge about composition, perspective and mathematics is what guided him to become one of the most significant Renaissance artists. His technique and understanding of proportions were composed in his Four Books on Measurement and his Four Books on Human Proportion, which contained explanations of geometry, architecture, linear perspective and aesthetics.
