Amedeo Modigliani (Italian, 1884 - 1920)

Follow this artist
Italian artist, Amedeo Modigliani, began his artistic career studying the style of Renaissance art. As his technique developed, the shift from Renaissance to landscape work became popular among other artists, but he refused to succumb to the pressure of a popular subject. Upon arriving to Paris, Modigliani was exposed to a new artistic lifestyle. He became very involved in his bohemian, dramatic and romantic surroundings, and as a result of his inspired environment, Modigliani discovered figurative paintings as being his passion, more specifically, nudes. He established a reputation for himself through his African mask-like faces, and elongated features of his subjects.
