 Ansel Adams (American, 1902 - 1984)

American photographer, Ansel Adams, was one of the most well known black-and-white photographers of the American landscape. His use of the large format camera allowed him to capture the high contrast and sharp details of his environment. He was a collaborating inventor of the commonly used Zone System, and a founder of the Group f/64. The notion of "visualization", using the image of the minds eye before creating a piece of work, was what guided him in his overall composition. Today, his images are often reproduced for posters, calendars and photography books.
