This profoundly influential French photographer is widely considered the father of modern photojournalism, as he mastered the art of "real life reportage" and candid photography. His work has had a profound impact on subsequent generations of photographers, and his distinctive style continues to influence street photography. Cartier-Bresson achieved international renown for his coverage of Mahatma Ghandi's 1948 funeral, and the last stage of the Chinese Civil War which took place a year later.
