Kate Gilmore was born in Washington D.C. in 1975 and lives and works in New York, NY. Recent exhibitions include the Whitney Biennial, Whitney Museum of Art, New York, New York; Public Art Fund, New York, New York: Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn, New York; PS1/MoMA, Queens, New York; The Kitchen, New York, New York. Selected solo exhibitions include: Locust Projects, Miami, FL; Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Franco Soffiantino Galleria, Italy; Maisterravalbuena, Spain; Smith-Stewart Gallery, New York; White Columns, New York, New York; Contemporary Art Center, Cincinnati, Ohio; Artpace, San Antonio, Texas. Her work has been included in several national and international exhibitions including the J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles, California; Mary Boone Gallery, New York, New York; Rose Art Museum, Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn, New York; Bronx Museum, Bronx, New York; Waltham, Massachusetts; RISD Museum of Art, Providence, Rhode Island; Haifa Museum of Art, Haifa, Israel; MAK Museum of Art, Vienna, Austria; Istanbul Museum of Art, Istanbul, Turkey, and Greater New York 2005 at PS1/MoMA Contemporary Art Center, Long Island City, NY. Gilmore’s work has been reviewed in numerous publications including: The New Yorker, The New York Times, New York Magazine, The Guardian, Washington Post, Time Magazine, Newsweek, Wall Street Journal, Flash Art, Brooklyn Rail, Village Voice, Chicago Tribune, Art in America, Modern Painters, ArtUs, Time Out/NewYork, Artnews, Art Papers, San Francisco Chronicle, and Artforum.

Gilmore received her MFA from the School of Visual Arts, New York, NY and her Bachelors degree from Bates College, Lewiston, Maine. She has been the recipient of several international awards and honors, such as the Rome Prize from the American Academy in Rome, Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award, the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Award for Artistic Excellence, the Franklin Furnace Fund for Performance, The LMCC Workspace Residency, New York, New York, New York Foundation for The Arts Fellowship, and the the Marie Walsh Sharpe Space Residency, Brooklyn, New York. Her work is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York, Whitney Museum of Art, New York, Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn, New York, and Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA), Chicago.
