Robert Mapplethorpe was a contemporary American visual artist who was born in 1946. Robert Mapplethorpe has had numerous gallery and museum exhibitions, including at the J. Paul Getty Museum at the Getty Center and at the Albertina Museum. Numerous works by the artist have been sold at auction, including 'Andy Warhol, 1987' sold at Christie's New York 'PHOTOGRAPHS' in 2006 for $643,200. There have been Numerous articles about Robert Mapplethorpe, including 'Hold Me' written by Jessie Wender for The New Yorker in 2012. The artist died in 1989.
