Das Werk befand sich lange in Domburger Privatbesitz, aus dem Nachlass von Bien de Sitta und gelangte anlässlich einer Versteigerung in den Besitz von Kees Maas, der Mondrian in Domburg anlässlich des Erbaus des Ausstellungspavillons kennengelernt hatte.
