Sotheby's moved into the galleries at 34-35 New Bond Street in 1917, having had premises in the Strand since the founding of the company in 1744. This prestigious location has since become a destination for collectors, connoisseurs and art lovers alike with sales ranging from porcelain to Picasso, furniture to Old Master paintings, books to wine. The New Bond Street galleries have hosted numerous famous sales including such historic occasions as the Goldschmidt collection in 1958 and Von Hirsch sales in 1978, and more recently, record-breaking sales of Impressionist, Modern and Contemporary art.
