About the Venue

"Sotheby's Italia took its first steps in Florence in 1969 in the seat of Palazzo Capponi. Since 1973 Sotheby's Italy has established its auction seat in Milan then from 1991 Sotheby's Italy has establihshed its main gallery at Palazzo Broggi in MIlano and it has inaugurated offices in in Rome at the magnificent Palazzo Colonna (1977) and in Turin (1979). Soon after the opening Sotheby's announced the sale of the contents of the Florentine residence of Prince Paul of Yugoslavia, Villa Demidoff, followed by Villa Ombrellino in 1970, Villa delle Rose in 1980, the residences of Countess Mona Bismark in Capri in 1987 and in more recent years by the collections Strozzi Sacrati (the 30 paintings have been acquired by the Pinacoteca of Ferrara thanks to the contribution of an Italian bank), the sale Furniture and Paintings from Ferruzzi Residences and Estates, organized in June 1994 and the house sale of Corsini, held in Corsini palace in Florence in September of the same year. In March 1995 Sotheby's organized the sale of the contents of the Turin house of the famous Italian sensitive Gustavo Adolfo Rol and in May the sale of the collection of Italian art of 20th century belonging to Eric Estorick. In May 1998 it was held the sale of the collection of Stanley J. Seeger of Italian contemporary art. In May 2004 the first single-owner sale held in Rome at the magnificent seat of Casino dell'Aurora Pallavicini. On April 18, 2007, the entire collection of important Porcelain and Maiolica belonging to the Roman antique dealer, Giampaolo LU.K.acs was sold setting a world auction record for a Doccia porcelain group for a 1746 Doccia white porcelain group by Gaspero Bruschi. On July of the same year in Milan was successfully sold a group of 18th Italian and French furniture and works of art from the magnificent collection of Alberto Bruni Tedeschi, an Italian industrialist, composer and passionate collector; the first part of his collection had been sold in March 2007 in London. Expertise of Modern and Contemporary Art, 19th Century and Old Master Paintings and Drawings, Furniture, Ceramics, Maiolica and Works of Art, Jewellery, Books and Prints are organized by a staff of experts living in Italy who can avail themselves of the opinion of over 400 international experts. More than 20 auctions are yearly organised in Italy besides the several charity sales, events and previews of international auctions."
