In his many years of his career as an artist, Bjørn Melhus has developed a singular position within video art, which above all expands the possibilities of cinema and television reception. In his mostly narrative films, videos and installations, he re-contextualises well-known motifs, themes and strategies of the mass media through the fragmentation of image and sound. His multiple, often tragicomic role plays reveal mechanisms of commercialisation and rebel against simplification and global cultural uniformity.
