Comics Trip!
As part of the French Year of Comic books, the Lambert Collection presents an exhibition called "COMICS TRIP!" revealing the links between contemporary artists who have appropriated the aesthetic of Comics and narrative drawings, and comicbook artists who have elaborated a radical practice.
The exhibition shows how several artists have deconstructed our relation to image, since the 1960’s, by eliminating the borders between disciplines from the “great art” and popular cultures. These artists have developped an aesthetic based on motion nourrished by different subcultures and contrecultures coming from comic books and particularly narrative drawing.
Even if contemporary art have welcomed these several works, comic books became the playground of radical artists. By taking an other path from the traditional discipline and avoiding the commercial dimension, they created singular works which have participated to erase the frontiers between contemporary art and traditional comic books.
