Drawings and Prints: Selections from the Permanent Collection

Apr 04, 2011 - Jun 12, 2011
This exhibition includes works on paper that date from the seventeenth century to the present day. A selection of prints focuses on Albrecht Dürer (German, 1471–1528) and Rembrandt van Rijn (Dutch, 1606–1669) and their treatment of the nude. Another group includes drawings by Polidoro da Caravaggio (Italian, 1499–1543) and prints after his design. Recently acquired landscapes by British artists Francis Towne (British, 1739–1816) and Samuel Scott (British, 1701/2–1772) are exhibited along with related works from the collection.

Two bays of the exhibition are devoted to a selection of prints and drawings by William Blake (British, 1757–1827) and etchings by Mary Cassatt (American, 1844–1926). Finally, a group of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century European theater designs is displayed.
