Nov 26, 2011 - Dec 26, 2011
Chronological presentation
The oldest part of the museum's collection consists of Western European art with centres of gravity within Dutch, Flemish, Italian, French and German art. Its uniqueness and large span of time - from late Gothic to Rococo - is reflected in the chorological presentation.

Artists include Mantegna, Titian, Cranach, El Greco, Rubens and Rembrandt, among others. This display highlights the origin of the royal collections and highlights the diversity of artistic expression in painting, sculpture, paper art and miniatures.

Three major themes in the presentation
Which aesthetic ideas are true? What moral and ethical values are embodied in art? In view of 500 years of European art, we focus on the unique character of artistic expression, everyday moral philosophy and the big questions in life. The collection is introduced by the 3 main themes:
The Religious Life The Profane Life The Celebrations of Life Each theme highlights specific aspects of the art period.

Three newly restored masterpieces and a new acquisition

News is also there. We can present three masterpieces that have not been shown in several generations or even during the museum's history at all. All three paintings have been hidden away in museum storage and can now be displayed in restored condition with a well-deserved place in the presentation of the permanent collections. The museum will also present a new acquisition, a monumental doomsday vision painted around 1600.
