“From the page to the space: published paper sculptures” brings together over 90 artists who pioneered some of the 20th century’s most relevant artistic languages – Constructivism, Pop Art, Conceptual Art, New Realism, Fluxus and Visual Poetry. The exhibition explores the wealth and diversity of the possibilities of materialization of sculptures that make surprising use of artists’ books or publications. All the works on display are designed to be cut out and assembled. They are all three-dimensional and have been published in books since the 1950s until the present day. The dozens of works include astonishing paper sculptures such as Claes Oldenburg’s “geometric mouse”, book-sculptures by James Lee Byars, Julio Plaza and Augusto de Campos, Daniel Spoerri’s “trap-picture”, Eduard Bal’s paper planes, Gérard Garouste’s puppet theatre, Robert Filliou’s or Roy Lichtenstein’s paper hats, Andy Warhol’s objects or the sophisticated pop-up book by the well-known German photographer, Andreas Gursky.
