Funny Editions. The Heinz Beck Collection

Jun 08, 2013 - Aug 25, 2013
In the 1960s art was to be no longer an elitist affair. Many artists were keen on making their artworks and ideas accessible to everybody. “Art for Everybody” was the motto – with this in mind, artists and publishers joined forces and produced their art as multiples for low prices. This exhibition highlights for the first time where Heinz Beck as a collector looked for art, and from which publishers and gallery owners he bought artworks. Following his traces, we learn about Joseph Beuys, Evervess, glass, felt, wood, paper, colours, metal, the art market in the Rhine region, Germany, Europe and the US in the 1960s and 1970s. The Beck collection showcases a comprehensive selection of art from these two decades, including famous Pop Art artists like Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, objects from the Fluxus-movement, concrete poetry and concept art.
