In Residence II
The Oliver Sears Gallery returns to London once more this October, bringing a carefully curated selection of contemporary Irish and International art to 33 Fitzroy Square.
Following the success of In Residence I, we have again chosen a private, domestic setting for In Residence II. What sets this year’s In Residence apart from last year’s is the breadth of art and artists on show over four floors. Whereas Curator Brian Kennedy focused exclusively on Irish and Irish based artists for the inaugural London show, this time we have included works by seminal names that illustrate artistic context. Luminaries from the international art world such as Pablo Picasso, Diane Arbus, Uta Barth, Grayson Perry, David Hockney, Jenny Holzer, Alex Katz, Anselm Kiefer, Carol McNicoll and Andy Warhol are juxtaposed by Kennedy to sit alongside contemporary Irish greats.
In Residence II is divided into six themes: Abstraction, Figuration, Landscape, Portraiture, Still Life and Identity, Gender Politics. In each section are examples of internationally established artists alongside home-grown Irish talent. Some 75 artists are included in the exhibition, representing a dozen countries, working in 14 different media.
In an exclusive and innovative approach to the art fair season in London the exhibition will take place in the context of a Georgian townhouse. Number 33 housed the Omega Workshops Ltd, a design enterprise founded by members of the Bloomsbury Group and established in July 1913 with the intention of providing graphic expression to the essence of the Bloomsbury ethos; that artists could design, produce and sell their own works, and that writers could also be their own printers and publishers.
