The female image has beguiled artists for millennia. From the ancient
Egyptian busts of Nefertiti to Leonardo da Vinci’s enigmatic Mona Lisa, artists
have attempted to capture the features and personality of female sitters in
oils, marble, and every other imaginable media. Complementing portraits in
the exhibitions of
work by Diego Lasansky and
Auguste Rodin, Ladies of the Club
celebrates the female portraits in the CRMA’s collection, from
Marvin Cone’s
evocative paintings of his wife, Winnifred, to
Mauricio Lasansky’s sensitive
prints of his wife and daughter Emilia and Maria Jimena to
Andy Warhol’s iconic
images of the mourning Jackie Kennedy.
