Landmarks of World Art and Architecture

Feb 05, 2010 - May 09, 2010
This installation of works introduces students to a range of analytical methods one might use in approaching works of art. Visitors to the gallery are encouraged to consider, for example, how the medium or function of a piece affects its meaning. Other questions might address a work’s mode of construction, its relationship to the viewer, the professional status of its maker, its state of conservation, the context for which it was originally made, the composition of its subject matter, the “messages” of its content, or the manner of its display. The installation of over 30 objects includes works by Marianne Brandt, Ando Hiroshige, Roy Lichtenstein, and Nicolas Régnier.
