The Telluride Gallery of Fine Art is pleased to present “Emergence,” an exhibition featuring two gallery artists: Malcolm Liepke and Shawna Moore. This exhibition is on view from Thursday, March 3, to Sunday, April 3. Please join us for drinks and small bites at the gallery for Telluride’s Art Walk evening on Thursday, March 3 from 5:00pm - 8:00pm.Malcolm Liepke is a largely self-taught artist whose figurative oil paintings are often set in intimate interiors.
Liepke paints from photographs and works in a wet-on-wet technique in which layers of oil paint are built up without drying in between. Loose brushstrokes and gray-green skin tones imbue his subjects with a fleshy sensuality, providing a voyeuristic sense of pleasure, while simple gestures and expressions convey strong emotions. Above all, Liepke’s work explores the engagement between subject and viewer.
