Matthew Stone
The Hole is pleased to present our seventh solo exhibition by British artist Matthew Stone. After debuting in his 2023 solo show a singular 3D printed, machine-assisted oil painting, Stone returns with a full show that pushes the possibility of technology further, a glimpse at "man and machine" working in tandem in unchartered territories. Stone travelled to New York to create this new body of work at ARTMATR labs in Red Hook, where MIT artists and engineers have come together to make innovative tools and tech. By leveraging AI, robotics, computer vision and painting scripts, their robot creates traditional oil paintings in three dimensions incorporating the artist’s hand in the process.
