Mona Höke and Kathrin Karras: Foreign Parts and Freedom

The three-part exhibition series Foreign Parts and Freedom presents a collaborative artistic exploration of Prince Hermann von Pückler-Muskau by painter Mona Höke and photographer Kathrin Karras. The two artists dedicate themselves to the world traveler, the landscape architect, and the imaginative Pückler, approaching the historical figure with different focuses and perspectives, which are concentrated in the respective exhibitions.

For the first time, the painter and the photographer are not only working together on a single theme, but are also jointly responsible for some of the images. Their respective forms of expression, articulations, and visual concepts have merged. Alongside the individually produced artworks, collaborative pieces that oscillate between painting, drawing, and photography are also on display.

Two related exhibitions by the two artists will be shown in Cottbus at different times: Foreign Parts and Freedom. Landscapes on Pückler’s Oriental Journeys at Branitz Castle / Prince Pückler Museum and Branitz Castle Foundation (July 31 – October 31, 2026) and Foreign Parts and Freedom. Oh, Joy of Life – Pückler’s Tutti Frutti at the Ma/rie/mix 23 Gallery (August 15 – October 31, 2026).
