Paper Works
"PAPER/WORKS" focuses on works on paper, including paintings, prints, drawings and books that explore the variations of the material.
A few of the featured artists, including as Tucson-based Jim Waid, use paper as a vehicle for investigation and discovery in their paintings and sculpture. For other artists, working on paper is their singular focus. Eighty-one year-old William Anastasi has a particular affinity for work working on paper and is best known for his conceptual drawings.
Francisco Clemente and Ed Kienholz – historical art figures whose work continues to influence subsequent generations – approached paper as they would have canvas; simply another surface on which to paint. The saturated color in Charles Arnoldi and Daniel Brice’s pieces is heightened by the velvety surfaces of the paper, while Mark Pomilio’s elegant 3D drawings of cellular structures have a delicacy that is complemented by the plush filament of the materials.
We invite you to experience this special exhibition in which the use of paper, either as surface or material, is a primary consideration.
