Picasso: Linocuts
This exhibition features 17 large linocut prints by Pablo Picasso (1881-1973), on display for the first time outside the British Museum.
Linocutting was a technique that Picasso explored in the late 1950s and early 1960s and the prints included in this exhibition were made in 1962 when Picasso was 80 years old. The artworks featured will include prints from the 'Jacqueline Reading' series - his wife and muse - and the 'Still Life under the Lamp' series.
Showing the ‘progressive’ process of linocutting that Picasso employed, he cut, printed and cleaned just one piece of lino over and over again to gradually build up an image and create the finished article.
This wonderfully bold and colourful exhibition features works acquired by the British Museum with support from the Art Fund, that are counted among Picasso’s most important works in linocut.
