The Portrait of Nicolaes van Bambeeck is one of the masterpieces by the 17th Century Dutch master to feature in a Belgian public collection. During its two-year stay at the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage of Belgium (IRPA) the painting has been completely restored, an operation overseen by an international scientific committee. Now comes the long-awaited chance to take a fresh look at this masterwork. Exceptionally, this piece is united with his counterpart Portrait of Agatha Bas, a masterpiece of the Royal Collection. Never before, paintings of were exposed at the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium, so this is an excellent opportunity to discover the paintings! The Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium are taking this opportunity to unveil other Dutch golden age treasures in the Bernheim room: Rembrandt drawings and a selection of paintings and drawings by disciples and heirs of the master. The technical aspects of the restoration are presented by the IRPA in the Boël room.
