Rock, Paper - Lithographs from the Permanent Collection, Part II

Aug 23, 2015 - Nov 22, 2015

The Snite Museum continues its exploration of lithography in the second of its two-part series by focusing on the maturation of the technique from 1900 through today. With examples by Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Grace Hartigan, Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, and Robert Indiana, this presentation charts the shift from European expressionism to abstract expressionism in the United States and a return to the figure in more recent years. Visitors will be introduced to print publishers such as Gemini G.E.L., Tamarind Institute, and Universal Limited Arts Editions (ULAE) whose inception in the 1960s led to a golden age of lithography.

Join us for a public reception from 2:00–4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 13 to celebrate this and all of the other fall special art exhibitions. Admission is free; all are welcome.
