The Knight’s Return

Apr 10, 2010 - Jul 10, 2010
After 18 months spent at the Getty Conservation Institute in Los Angeles, Rembrandt’s painting ‘The Knight with the Falcon’ is returning at last to its home at the Göteborg Museum of Art. Together with a series of scientific investigations an extensive process of conservation has also been conducted, and on the painting’s return the Göteborg Museum of Art will be presenting an exhibition on the theme of this work. The viewer will for the first time in hundreds of years be able to see the knight in his full shining glory, freed from the darkening varnish.

Also on show will be materials from the Getty Institute’s scrupulous conservation techniques along with information about the latest research into the history of this painting and the identity of the person depicted.
