Town Hall
Artist Liz Toonkel invites you to participate in a Town Hall meeting held at ltd los angeles on the 16th and 17th of September. Toonkel, in the character of My Period, will call the meeting to order with opening remarks on both Saturday and Sunday. Flags specifically constructed for the occasion by Zackary Drucker will be flown throughout the weekend.
Town Hall is a weekend of performances using the arena and framework of the town hall forum to explore the role of artist within the community, specifically the commercialization and fetishization of political identity. Like town halls, performance follows no rules and provokes action by challenging conventional social norms from the past.
The artists to perform in the round include Tyler Calkin, Ali Kheradyar, Rachel Mason, Arturo Molinar-Aliva, Zoe Aja Moore, Carolyn Pennypacker Riggs, Christy Roberts Berkowitz, Molly Shea, Darling Shear-Squire, Ben Tong, Liz Toonkel, Jason Triefenbach, and Paul Waddell. The following artists will create the objects that bring the Town Hall meeting to life: Sarah Petersen's rug delineates the performance space, Christopher Reynolds crafts the refreshment table, and Nick Rodrigues activates the folding chairs the community will gather on.
