XX-XY: Gender Representation in Art

Dec 18, 2010 - Jun 05, 2011
The critique of gender and cultural identity is a powerful theme in contemporary art. XX-XY/Gender Representation in Art draws upon the OMA’s Permanent Collection and from important local, private and public collections to examine the roles of men and women and how they are portrayed visually. The exhibition will be divided into four themes: Magnetism (the power to attract others); Domesticity (the influences of home life, but also the possibility to tame); Power (the ability to have strength, influence and/or control); and Enhancements (adornments that enhance an individual's status).
