Art Dealing Guy presents Metropolitan Monologues, a solo exhibition of new paintings and hand-embellished limited editions by Brooklyn-based artist Barbara Graetzer, known professionally as Barbtropolis.

The exhibition centers on Graetzer's core subject: human behavior — how people connect, perform, and coexist. Working across painting, drawing, and large-scale murals, she has developed a visual language of bold linework, tightly composed color palettes, and character-driven compositions that are immediately legible and reward sustained looking. Each piece in this exhibition functions as an individual voice within a larger collective conversation.

Born in Rio de Janeiro and raised across multiple countries, Graetzer brings a genuinely transnational perspective to work that is rooted in, but not limited to, the urban environment. Her figures appear intertwined, suspended, or absorbed in private rituals — human-scale moments rendered with graphic precision.

The Work

Major works include Shared Pulse, a composition capturing collective euphoria through a dense crowd of jerseys, flags, and individual figures unified by one shared moment; and Return to Sun, which operates at the opposite scale — micro-narratives embedded in every square inch of the canvas, revealing new details with each viewing. Additional works — In Tune, Between Moments, Growing Still, and Morning Ritual — complete a collection that spans the full range of her vocabulary.

Metropolitan Monologues includes an exclusive release of archival pigment prints on heavy, deckled-edge paper in a strict edition of 12. Each work is individually hand-embellished and signed by the artist — no two are identical. The process is documented in the accompanying digital viewing room.
