ONLINE: Charmaine Olivia: Sanctuary & Shadow
Art Dealing Guy is pleased to present Sanctuary & Shadow, a premier digital solo exhibition and immersive viewing room by internationally acclaimed painter Charmaine Olivia. This recent collection marks a significant evolution in Olivia’s career, debuting a bold shift from master-level realism toward a vibrant, emotive figurative abstraction.
In Sanctuary & Shadow, Olivia explores the "off-duty" lives of ancient deities, reimagining figures like Nyx and Hestia within contemporary, intimate settings. Inspired by the lush, moss-draped landscapes of the Pacific Northwest and the crystalline light of the South of France, the works navigate the tension between public identity and private sanctuary.
"I wanted to capture that 'floaty' feeling of disappearing into oneself," says Olivia. "These paintings are about the quiet moments where the divine meets the domestic—where we find a sanctuary from the noise of the world."
Known for her technical mastery of oil on canvas, Olivia’s latest body of work pivots from signature realism toward a bold, "stained-glass" aesthetic. The collection utilizes a vibrant palette of saturated colors and geometric patterns. Key works such as "Ariadne’s Thread" and "Psyche and Aphrodite" showcase this new direction, where the human form dissolves into fluid lines and solid blocks of color, emphasizing psychological depth and the "female gaze" over literal representation.
