Adan Lopez Aleman
López’s artistic process is defined by a punctum, a certain moment in which the energetic presence of the person portrayed becomes inevitable. “The Collision,” as he calls it, is the point at which the canvas transforms from mere pigment to a person with a soul present in his studio.
This collision may occur throughout any part of the creative process, unexpectedly bringing life to the painting from the first brush stroke to the final detail. This process is intuitive like that of historic ecstatic painters who channeled innate spiritual energy.
When painting portraits, López transcends beyond technique and the physical qualities of a face, but seeks to depict the soul. Transmitting the emotion and feeling, López fosters a profound connection between the model, the artist, and the viewer.
