Collection Gallery
Occupying the majority of the Museum's second floor, the Textile Museum of Canada’s new Collection Gallery, will allow the Museum to display selections from its permanent collection of over 15,000 objects through rotations, thematic installations, and special initiatives in a dedicated, permanent, gallery space.
The work presented in this space will be drawn from the permanent collection, acquired largely by individual donations, dating back to the Museum’s founding in 1975.
Since then, the collection has grown to include more than 15,000 textiles, hand made by individuals from around the world, embodying expressions of diverse identities and material cultures. They originate from over 200 regions and incorporate traditions from Turtle Island (North America), Central and South America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Oceania. They date from 100 CE up to the present day.
