Located in Aspen, Colorado, the Aspen Art Museum is a globally preeminent non-collecting institution that presents the newest, most important evolutions in international contemporary art. Founded in 1979, the museum has been at the center of Aspen’s renowned cultural community. In that time, the AAM has featured the work of such leading artists as Vito Acconci, Amy Adler, Doug Aitken, Louise Bourgeois, Thomas Demand, Olafur Eliason, Simon Evans, Christian Jankowski, Robert Mangold, Laura Owens, Pedro Reyes, Ed Ruscha, Gregor Schneider, Javier Téllez, James Turrell, Richard Tuttle, and others, many while they were in the early stages of their careers.
Through free public lectures and guided tours of museum exhibitions, private collection tours, international members’ art trips, and art outreach programs in regional schools, the museum provides a wide variety of contemporary art-based programming.
Break It Down is an exhibition of works by Glenn Ligon that brings together prints, multiples, and works on paper made by the artist since the early 1990s.
