About the Artwork
Orly Genger is best known for her large-scale, and often site-specific, installations in which she uses large amounts of recycled climbing and lobster-fishing rope. It was precisely during the process of creation of one of these works for New York’s Madison Square Park in 2011, that the artist conceived a new direction in her practice by transferring the aesthetics of these monumental sculptures to a series of cast sculptures of a domestic scale. Untitled stands out within this series of artworks as a rare example. Whilst the majority of these sculptures are cast in metal, this particular work has been enriched by contrasting the solid and shining aluminum with the paleness and softness of a white resin in which it has been dipped. Reflecting on this series of sculptures, Genger herself has referred to each of the works as a “gesture and a drawing” therefore highlighting the role of her own intuition in the process of creation.
