About the Artwork
Executed in 2006, Untitled is an elegant example of Claudia Wieser’s Modernist-inspired constructions. In the present work, both the mechanisms of visual perception and the position of the viewer are confronted with a distorted mirror relief cut in a triangular pattern that interferes with the habitual process of contemplation and reflection. The multi-faceted mirror, a recurrent motif within the artist practice, owes its shape and regularity to the influence that geometric abstraction, in particular that of the work of the Bauhaus masters Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee, has exerted on Wieser. Of the importance of this visual language in her practice, the artist has explained: “Sometimes I like the simplicity of forms and material in the Modernists works, which liberates the spirit.”
